BCC JUNIORS AT LIGHTING NORTH AMERICANS
Day One: Arrival and Measurement
After a long eight hour car ride we arrived at the yacht clubs with grins on our faces, all excited for the fun that was waiting to be had. After rigging, measuring, and lunch we finally figured out how to use the hoist at low tide and sailed out to the bay. The pressing current and light breeze made trying conditions for learning about the waters in Newport. Between the changing wind, current and lobster pods we quickly realized that we were no longer at the Buffalo Canoe Club. We are looking forward to the exciting days of sailing that lie ahead. We will send more updates as the Junior NA's progress.

Day Two: First Day of Racing
Our first day of racing was very interesting. The wind was light and the current was strong making the races long and difficult. Connor Godfry won the first race, setting the canoe club up with a good start. After three races and nine hours on the water, we finally got back to the dock, hot and tired.

Day Three: Second day of Racing
The second day of racing was like a whole different venue. The winds were very strong and the rain was cold. We had enough gear on for a day of skiing in Buffalo and were still cold. Ten of the eighteen boats in the junior fleet tipped, including four BCC teams. We handled the wind as well as we could, but Connor Godfrey and TJ Wright had breakdowns and had to return to the docks before the racing was over. Some races were abandoned because our course was set up in the middle of a commercial shipping channel and barges would interrupt our races. Despite the number of tipped boats and breakdowns the race committee managed to complete three races

Day Four: The Last Day of Racing
The final day of races was in medium breeze. We started out the day with an eighth but, by Jody's advice we banged the left corner every upwind leg in the last race and FINALLY won with Connor Godfrey coming in a close second. Connor Mangan, Tim Scanlan, and Adam also had close finished in the top 10. Five BCC teams finished top ten in the regatta and two teams brought home race flags. It was an exciting regatta and we cannot wait until next years to continue to place better and hopefully the trophy will soon by housed at the BCC!
