OPTIMIST 1:  Starting June 28, 2010

Class Time:  1/2 days alternating mornings & afternoons

  • Week 1:  June 28 - July 2  (9:00 - 12:00)
  • Week 2:  July 5-9  (1:00 - 4:00)
  • Week 3:  July 12-16  (9:00 - 12:00)
  • Week 4:  July 19-23  (1:00 - 4:00)
  • Week 5:  July 26-30  (9:00 - 12:00)
  • Week 6:  Aug 2-6  (1:00 - 4:00)
  • Week 7:  Aug 9-13  (9:00 - 12:00)
  • Week 8:  Aug 16-20 (1:00 - 4:00)

Cost:  $175.00 per week (non members add 20%) - Age 6 and up - also note daycamp has sailing for ages 4 to 9.

This is an introduction to sailing which is taught in the optimist sailboat.  The class starts on the beach and learns how to put the sail up.  They then move into shallow water and learn how to stear a boat, pull in the sail and determine where the wind is coming from.  All from the shelter of the shallow water at the beach with the instructor in the water beside them.  The class will then progress to deeper water and sailing around marks.  Games and fun activities are incorporated to keep learning fun.  Starting age is 6 years old.


OPTIMIST 2:  Starting June 28, 2010

Class Time:  1/2 days alternating afternoons & mornings

  • Week 6:  Aug 2-6 (9:00 - 12:00)
  • Week 7:  Aug 9-13  (1:00 - 4:00)
  • Week 8:  Aug 16-20  (9:00 - 12:00)

This class is the next step from optimist one.  The class does a review of rigging, stearing and sail controls.  Sailors are introduced to points of sail.  This class aims to sail in deep water all the time and will work on sailing around a course and learning to tack and gybe.


 

O'PEN BIC:  Starting June 28, 2010

**Must supply your own o'pen bic boat**

Qualified White Sail Levels will be given out for this class.

Class Time:  Monday to Friday:  9:00 - 4:00

Cost:  To be provided.

What are the sailors going to learn?

Sailors in this program will sail on the O’pen Bic boats which they are to provide. Emphasis is to prepare the sailors for the end of session regattas, from novice to advanced sailors. Learn how to:  boat handle; rig; sail; tack; gybe;points of sail.  NOTE:  August Regatta to CORK is required.


WHITE SAIL LEVEL 1 - 3, Starting June 28, 2010

Class time:  Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm.    For ages 10 and up OR completion of Opti Two.

Cost:  Full session $675.00 (non-members add 20%)  Two week minimum is $360.00.

July Session:  June 28 - July 23                        August Session:  July 26-August 20

Sailors typically sail twice a day beginning with a lesson in the morning and then a sailing session.  They come in for lunch under the tent on the lawn have a second mini lesson and out again to sail.  They work on the CYA White Sail Level 1-3.  Details on the level can be found at www.sailing.ca/home.  Sailors use the CL 11's for this class.  While Sail Level 1 is a beginner level where they learn to steer parts of the boat, rigging, how to trim the sails and get an introduction to the points of sail.  White Sail Level 2 is where the sailor learns how to sail upwind, reaching and running, refine the points of sail and learn more about trimming the sails and running the boat.  White Sail Level 3 sailors learn about capsizing, how to recover the boat, how to sail more difficult courses and refine the points of sail.  Acitivities, games and much more are included to keep learning fun! NEXT STEP:  After completing all levels of White Sail, Bronze class should follow.

BRONZE

Class time:  Monday to Friday from 9am - 4pm. 

Cost:  $725.00 full session (non-members add 20%).  Two week minimum is $385.00;  

July Session:  July 5 - July 30

August Session:  Aug 2 - 13th;  Cork Week:  Aug 16-20;  Club Championship Week, Aug 23-27.

420 High Performance Racing Clinic with Oliver Bone:  Jun 28 - July 1, $275.00.

The Bronze class uses 420 Sailboats with spinnaker and trapeze.  The sailors work on their advanced sailing skills learning how to hike, trapeze, fly spin, problem solve and on land classes cover CE/CLR, sail flow and sail controls.  Some sailors may be invited to sail with the 420 Silver/Gold racing and may be invited to away regattas.  NEXT STEP:  Once you have completed Bronze Level 4 and 5 the 420 Silver/Gold Racing OR the Junior Lightning Racing Team.


420 SILVER/GOLD

Class time:   Monday to Friday from 9am - 4pm.  with additional time for regattas, travel and 420 Race Night.  It is strongly suggested that a sailor take part in the entire session in order to contribute and be part of the team atmosphere.  Please consult the Junior Racing Calendar for details on dates of away regattas and other planned events.

Cost:  $775.00 per Session (non-members add 20%) with additional fees for away regattas.  

July Session:  July 5 - July 30 

August Session:  Aug 2 - 13th;  Cork Week:  Aug 16-20;  Club Championship Week, Aug 23-27.

420 High Performance Racing Clinic with Oliver Bone:  Jun 28 - July 1, $275.00.

The 420 Silver/Gold program uses 420 sailboats.  Silver and Gold racing levels are worked on but are not the primary focus.  Sailors participate in at least one away regatta and several at home regattas.  Developing tactical, technical and theoretical understanding of the 420, weather, sails, race course and much more is covered throughout the session.  Each level can take longer than one summer to complete and require a sailor to be committed to the program and the team.  Registered sailors should contact Dayna in the spring for more details on the program at junioractivities@buffalocc.on.ca.  NEXT STEP:  Continue racing in 420 or carry on to the Lightning Junior Team.


ADULT SAILING

Wednesday evenings:  July 7 to August 11, Beginner & Intermediate:  $275.00.

Class starts at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, however, may go later.  This class is rain or shine.  If raining, the class will meet in the sail loft above the Marina Office, otherwise, meet on the side lawn under the tent.  You must provide your own life jacket, swimwear, proper footwear, and rain gear (jacket and pants if needed).


WOMEN'S MATCH RACING CLINIC;  July 1, 2010

Thursday afternoons, 4:30 to 7:30, July 1 to July 29,  (5 Classes ) cost is $125.00 

This is now an Olympic Event!!

This is an introductory class that uses Lightning sailboats.  Sailors are to provide their own boat.  They will participate in developing tactical, technical and theoretical understanding of Match Racing, rules, weather, sails, race course and much more is covered throughout the session.  Each participant may spend time skippering and crewing.

 

Teams will be formed upon arrival.
